Innovation Centre
The first of its kind, Innovation Centre is a science building at the Cape Byron Rudolph Steiner School made with Hempcrete breathable walls.
Northern light and cross ventilated sea breezes foster a natural learning environment. The Centre was masterplanned to include gathering spaces and a large courtyard to encourage social interactions between students.
Design Team: Leo, Michael
Builder: Field Construction
Sustainability:
Hempcrete walls rendered with natural lime externally and clay internally.
Breathable magnesium wall boards were used for the internal walls, also acting as permanent formwork for the hemp.
A proclima membrane facilitates the breathable wall system.
Oversized exposed stormwater collection system accommodates the the wet seasons in the sub tropical climate
Natural Marmoleum rubber floors were specified in place of the industry standard plastic vinyl.
